Transfering my account info to another gym without my authorization

Went to the gym on July 16, 2013 to attend class. Heard from other gym members the facility is closing on August 1, 2013. Went to the front desk to inquire about the closing. There were stacks of letters stating the facility was closing and we could go to youfit gym for free, a few miles down the road. they are transfering everybody's account to this gym without an authorization, they dont even ask you if is ok, this is against the law, they should get an authorization from you to transfer your info to any other facility or let you cancel your membership if your not able to go to this gym.

I am a displaced Shapes member with a 2 year prepaid contract. Last year I was sent a letter to notify me of the annual enhancement fee.

This year I was waiting for the letter which never came. On the 30th day I finally realized National Fitness was the billing and collection for Shapes. I was never notified of this. National Fitness said they do not send statements but last year they did.

This is the 31st day and I finally get a call from Ann Marie at the Dale Mabry club to discuss my enhancement fee and the late charge. National Fitness refuses to *** the late fee no matter how much I explain that I did not even have an address to send the money to until now. Where was the club notice on 12/15 when the enhancement fee was due? They take the money from customers because of the "Contract" but they do not provide the service stated in the contract.

We should as get together to have a class action suit. This is wrong for so many of us.

I believe that per the terms of the contract, Shapes is supposed to provide members a comparable facility to take over your contract if they close. As far as I know, YouFit does NOT come close to qualifying.

Not only is it NOT a female-only gym, but they don't offer any group-x classes, do they? Shapes REALLY, REALLY sucks now! Horrible customer service at most locations (at least the four I've recently been to). Lazy front desk staff, filthy gyms (not to mention the gross bathrooms and locker room areas), the *** "enhancement fee" they started charging all the while NEVER enhancing a *** thing!

Sub-par equipment, cutting the classes down to 30 minutes instead of an hour. The list goes on and on.

Charter Membership-kept debiting my account

I signed a contract for a charter membership with 11 monthly payments of 65.00 after a down payment of 144.10. They debited my account and never notified me to renew. When I went to shapes in Brandon they told me it was time to renew at 105.00. The girl at front desk noticed that the finance company had already debited 65.00 so I was mad. I stated that I would pay the difference of 40.00 and they would not get get another dime from me. Boy was I wrong-495.00 wrong. Still dealing with company and getting the run around, hopefully the manager can settle it or I will get 8 on your side involved, I have been a member for along time and feel hurt by the lack of honesty and compassion in this matter.

You most likely have an automatic renewal written into your contract that is what most gyms do. Would suggest reviewing your contract with the mngr before taking further action. Hope this helps.....perhaps they can give you free time if they are unable to refund

Shapes fitness st.pete 38 ave nasty nasty !!!

I signed up with shapes 2009 it was cheap had a 2 membership Some of the people work there are friendly . 2012 I rejoined for another Two years. They tell if do to health reasons you cannot workout you Have a doctors writing full report that they are to fully cancel your Contract. Well do to a health issues for year I had to stop. I never received Anything in mail statements nothing I started getting weekly nasty phone calls From one of there branch managers yelling harassing me weekly saying I need To pay they call saying they were law firm some kind. I even got a lawyer to View this I ended up changing my number left it alone by law nothing they can do Other then that place is unclean very dirty. Bathroom smells I've Seen old ladies dirty depends lying on there bathroom floor. Pool water green Very dirty some brown stuff floats deep side of them pool. Radio is plug into wall Near ?the pool very safe!!! kids club nasty they never have kid friendly people Place nasty kids running food all over. Waste of money look for something Worth your health and money. This place 3 years cost me more doctor bills From it being so dirty. I always got sick cold sore throat skin rash from pool.

Largo shapes Closing and no return calls back

I just signed my daughter up at the last week of February and then 3 weeks later they told me they were closing. I am friends with the girls that work there and was told I would get my money back. I still have been fighting it. Called Barry which is Corporate and no calls back. My daughter is a minor and cannot drive and long boarding to another shapes that is 10.2 miles is not feasible.They offered her YOUFIT and said its an equal Gym as its not, YOUFIT has no pool , no sauna, no steam-room, and it has men!!They need to be sued and everyone needs to start a class action suit and sue the pants off of Shapes. They need to know they cannot rip people off and ignore them.... They keep the money and still are charging everyone membership fees but are sending them to YOUFIT which is only $10 a month and shapes charges $30 and higher. Something should be done ASAP. Who is with me?

Call the dpt of agriculture/ fla. they are the licensing agency, and there are consumer protections in place by state law.

specifically, if a facility closes, and does not offer another alternative within 7 miles, than you should be able to obtain a refund. File a written complaint. They have to respond.

You can also look them up on the dpt of agricultures website,and see other complaints, and their status... Satisfactory/unsatisfactory...

Rumors they are moving

Heard rumors that they are moving closer to CR 52 and that there will not be a pool for members. I use the pool a least 4 times a a week, including a small training class twice a week. I us to go 6 days a week but they have less classes in the am. Also heard that they will not be refunding memberships for unused gym time. I pay for floor and pool and know there is not going to be a pool. The pool is the reason I joined Shapes instead of Plant Fitness. Pool classes have 20-26 females in them at all times. So popular that there is a sign in sheet so the class doesn't have more then allowed. I feel this is unfair to the Shapes customers and a finical burden on all of us to go the extra distance and to take away the pool. Don't use bank account to make payments!!!!

I had a two year contract that was to expire in Feb 2013. I lost my job in february as well so I was relieved the last payment would be taken out. Then they took out payments for March and April. I called to complain and was told "once contract expires, you will be debited month to month". They never ever informed me of this. Then to top it off, you cannot just cancel the membership. You need to send a thirty day notice in writing...Are you kidding me?? I feel scammed! Will let everyone know about it too!!

SHAPES Fitness Center rips off consumers

BEWARE! I signed a one year contract and paid the full amount in advance. I stopped going after 3 months knowingly forefitting 3/4th of the money I had paid. Not a problem. BUT.... I had no idea they would continue to charge me $26 plus every single month after the year had ended. This was NOT properly explained to me. My credit card # had changed and they did NOT send me a bill, so month after month they just racked up the charges >>> WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE. I got some phone messages to "please, call back" which I assumed were solicitation calls. Then a National Fitness company kept leaving the same message. When I finally answered they said I owe a certain amount and I better pay up, or they will ruin my credit. IMO this is a form of "consumer fraud" and intimidation. It is vulture capitalism. I will report the same to the Better Business Bureau and the Consumer Protection Service - and use every possible venue to warn others about the dishonest business dealings of this company.

I am fighting with them right now. My membership ended and I signed on for month to month with NO CONTRACT for $10/mo.

Not one month have I been dinged $10 and now they are saying I signed on for two more years. FRAUD.

They have my signature nowhere, sent me my contract (unsigned) and claim I did it over the phone. Guess I'll be suing Shapes.

Thanks for the posting. Shapes has already overcharged me for the prepaid year membership.

Now I am aware that I better make sure my membership is cancelled after the year ends. They have relocated my locatiion and no longer have a pool so I am unhappy.

This company steals money from your account every month!

This company mis-represents itself to potential members, pressures you to join, DOES NOT EXPLAIN THIER CONTRACT FULLY. They are now charging an enhancement fee, enhancement for what I do not know, since the location I am tied to, Westchase Tampa, has made no improvements, their staff eats at the front desk, they have taken out the number of machines to use. Every single month my account has been hit for an additional $28! This is ridiculous! When I called into customer service to get an explanation, I was told it was an enhancement fee? Really? Also was NOT allowed to speak to a supervisor! This company needs to be examined by the government for their shoddy practices.

What a *** bag! He's injured a number of people and is partially deaf.

Don't even bother going to this gym... you'll really be disappointed.

I've been the victim of the "enhancement fee" as well. They couldn't get the money from my account, so they sent me to collections.

When I complained all the way to the top level, suddenly the collection notices stopped without a word to me. Not happy with Shapes.

Rip off

I had to cancel due to medical condition was verbally told to contact corp shapes for a form for MD verification and was verbally told I could get a refund as my contract ends oct 2013 I my Doc appt my doc completed the form and it was faxed I got call today indicating deleting my account but when asked about refund for months not using Charney said since your membership was a renewal you can get a refund. *** *** unprofessional kept saying samething over and over she could expound on I asked her were does it say on the contact; the contact where the writing is so small and the printing is unreadable. These mother $";;) company is a *** scam and the female dogs that work and uphold the *** are no better. The female dogs that uphold the scam need to get a real job. Uneducated leeches. I will never join a gym ever again. My husband purchased the initial and I bought thereafter and the *** of a company rigged up some *** policy that just steals money. The *** funky facility I pray they go out of business by women stop doing business with. Charging annual enhancements fee what the *** are they enhancing in that dirty f$&ck up place phony *** people I am going to report to BBB

Shapes fees disclosed - don't buy if there is any chance you are moving

Hello I just cancelled my Shapes contract (within the 3 day consumer rights period) and initially offered no reason for changing my mind. Upon being pressed by the manager I said the fees weren't well explained to me but that I had asked and was told about two of them. The $29 enhancement fee and the $10 membership processing fee. I knew to ask about these from the posts here. But I was concerned about the fees associated with cancelling my membership if I moved - I was told there were no fees but I had to give 60 days notice and they would charge me for the 60 days in my prorated refund. It turns out this is not the case, as explained by the manager tonight. They charge you a $75 cancellation fee - no matter the reason and no matter even if there is not a shapes or IPFA club near your new home- OR they charge you 50% of the remaining balance on your contract - whichever is less. I also had a question about whether I need to give the 60 day notice for a 1 year contract before it ends - like some apartment leases require, but I never asked about that. So glad I cancelled my contract but beware of the following fees in addition to your other charges: $10 membership processing fee,$29 enhancements fee, $75 moving out of the area/doctor-says-no-exercising cancellations. Also note that for moving the IPFA club has to be more than 15 miles from your home, not just the 5 miles that a shapes facility has to be from your house in FL. THe IPFA club directory showed spotty nationwide coverage in my opinion.

shapes total fitness charged $31.03 without letting me knowfor updating there equipment, I went out for dinner with friends& my card was over drawn!!!!!!!If they had given me a notice this would never have happened.I called but could not speak to anyone who knew what they talking about.ALL I CAN SAY IS I WAS MUCH HAPPER AT LIFESTYLES FITNESS.THEY ARE MUCH MORE PROFESSIONAL. What is the point of joining a fittness center if you cannot disput anythididg they do,the girl I spoke to said she didnot know Corp. phone number,no one else to talk to except her.REALLLLLLLLY?Next year I will be at lifestyles fitness as a member

Dirty and Unpleasant environment

You think you are paying an inexpensive fee and months down the road you are charged an annual enhancement fee without being warned. Classes continue to be cut down and they do not listen to us regarding keeping classes/adding more classes. Also the gym is rarely cleaned; the pool/spa is disgusting, definitively not a clean workout environment. There are tons of announcements while working out. I try to put my headphones on so I am not bothered but they still do....cant wait til I am no longer a member. The workers are always gossiping and seem to be bothered by any complaint/assistance needed.

NO COMPASSION FOR MEMBERS STRUGGLING WITH FINANCES!

When I signed up with the gym last year, I had no way of foreseeing the horrible financial situation that my husband and I are in today. I am a nail tech and despite my full appointment book, I have no guarantee or consistency on how much money I bring home each week. With the extra money being taken out of my husband's paycheck due to the new tax program along with other extreme circumstances from past years, we have had to enroll in a debt consolidation program. This forces us to give up on those little โ€œextrasโ€ and unfortunately, the gym falls into that category. After talking to numerous people associated with Shapes, I was told that the only reasons they would cancel a contract would be for medical issues or a relocation... no exceptions! Unlike bigger companies like T-Mobile, Verizon, BrightHouse and even apartment complexes, they are unwilling to budge on this policy despite the fact that I am more than willing to pay any early termination fees. I would think that because there are other people who are experiencing the same issues with the economy, that they would be more understanding when it comes to the specifications of their contract. I am not asking for anything for โ€œfreeโ€, I am only asking that they show a little compassion for my extenuating circumstances and allow me to end my contract with no further issues. BTW, Shapes in Brandon has blocked me from posting on their page making it harder to warn others!! Very mature!

I am totally agree with you. They dont have any compassion with anybody neither knowing there are a hard economic situation .

The only thing they care about is the money. Honestly, I dont like the work outs there either, I prefer to run around my neighborhood than going to there :( ..i am very disappointed..it s the worst decision I have made

I had this same problem so I just got a new bank card so they were no longer able to take my money! I never actually signed a contract with them so whatever.

they had debt collectors call me for a few months but now they've stopped. probably too busy ripping off others!

I wish I was warned of shapes

Okayyy...so I recieved a coupon in the mail from shapes for a week free vip. I went way across town to try it. When I get there I am cohersed into signing a monthly contract because "its only today". She decides to show me pictures on her facebook of her ex, daughter, son etc n completly forgets to tell me I have three days to cancel and its a 2 year contract. When I asked about cancelation they put me on hold. 11 days later i call to cancel then I find out everything and she claims she emailed me contract, i got 0 emails from them. I had to have customer service(CS) mail it to me.I continued to call everyone afiliated to explian my situation they would not listen.I spoke to friend and family they could not believe it. so I spent a whole day one day trying n they wudnt even swith me to a student contract.When I ask to speak to manager, extention, anyone above them...noones available, there is noone above them. I got sooo mad I ordered new bank card n told them send it to collections.I will try to pay it but I will never go near them again, or refer anyone, I repeat anyone to them.

Agree with you!!! I went through the same as you, and i am still paying for that.

They didnt tell me that if i wanted to cancel my membership, I had a few days, and now I have to pay monthly without going to the gym. Also, i explain them my situation and why i was not able to go, but They told me i had to pay my completed membership to cancel it..

I cant believe it!!! I dont recommend this fitness to anyone.....Dont go Shapes at Carrollwood!

Terrible Place ! Rip off! I joined the club & was very quickly PISSED off. I paid the Highest price so that I could use the pool. I never once stepped in the pool! Too dirty for me. The machines are in very poor shape! The heart monitors don't work . I complained to the local office, Sent registered letters, left voice mails & NO ONE Has called me back or tried to make it better. They want you to wipe machines down . Very seldom have the cleaning products on hand. The spray bottles never work or are almost always empty. Sometimes if you are lucky you will have paper towels ! This place is disgusting! They don't care about the customers only want you to sign up & take the $. Then to charge enhancement fees! what a joke . Enhancement ! What enhancements have been done. Bikes are always broken. Trainers never walk the floor to help people out. Or tell someone is doing something wrong. Not using the machines the correct way. They feel sitting behind the desk is far more important ! I have been to other gyms where the trainers will walk around & give the customers little pointers astually interact with them. Not at shapes if you don't get sucked into paying for a private training class forget about it! You are on your own here at SHAPES IN LARGO FL. Then they try & get you to renew early ! this too is a joke. You renew early but lose the months you have left on original contract . Very sneaky shady people ! All they care about is the commission they need to make . I'll tell you they got me once & won';t again !! They need to go to customer service training !
